RoboCop Geekdom lives in Detroit

As big of a geek as I am, I don’t think I’d have ever thought to take on a project like some people in Detroit have. They have raised almost $60,000 for a statue of RoboCop to be placed in their city. This Kickstarter article that was pointed out to me tells the history of how a simple Twitter question to the mayor of Detroit lead to do an endeavor to raise $50K to build a statue of RoboCop. I found it interesting how quickly people were able to raise the money for a character who though he appeared appeared in movies, comics, and on TV was not overly successful. But this is what proves how strong geekdom and fandom can thrive. No matter how minor some theme may seem, there may be a group of people who will strongly defend it’s virtue. It should be interesting to see how this all turns out when it’s completed.
