Counting Down to Phoenix Comicon

Phoenix Comicon is only 3 days away so if you haven’t gotten your tickets yet, it’s a good time to. Given last year’s attendance count of 77,818, this year is going to be very busy. The convention has expanded up onto the 3rd floor of both buildings and even the main celebrity areas (for both panels and photos/autographs) have been moved up from the expansive dealer area to that 3rd floor for extra space to accommodate the increased traffic needs.

The convention is continuing its extraordinary line-up of celebrities. From the cast of The Rocky Horror Picture Show, we’ll have Barry Bostwick (Brad), Patricia Quinn (Magenta), and Nell Campbell (Columbia). They will be present at the shadow cast show as well. Buffy the Vampire Slayer cast members Alyson Hannigan (Willow), her husband Alexis Denisof (Wesley), and Charisma Carpenter (Cordelia) will also be at panels. There will also be a lot of other stars from across all sorts of genres. Appearances include Christopher Lloyd (Back to the Future), Danielle Panabaker (The Flash), David Morrissey (The Walking Dead), Edward James Olmos (Battlestar Galactica), Jason Isaacs (Harry Potter), Jason Momoa (Stargate: Atlantis, The Game of Thrones), Katee Sackhoff (Battlestar Galactica), Lou Ferrigno (The Incredible Hulk), Michael Shanks (Stargate SG-1), Ron Perlman (Hellboy), and Summer Glau (Firefly).

Not all panels are about the stars though. There are plenty of professional and fan panels as well on topics from comics and costuming to sci-fi and scripting. I’ll be sitting on 2 panels this year, one about LGBT characters in comic books and one about DC Comics going from Crisis on Infinite Earths to the current storyline of Convergence. And if panels aren’t your thing, take a wander around the dealer room. There will be cosplayers galore down there to see. You can also shop from booths containing comic books, toys, manga, props, videos, and more. One of my favorite things to check out (and purchase) are the prints from the various artists out there.

Past years have been a lot of fun as the convention has grown and this year will no doubt be the same. I’ll be there every day so say hi if you see me.
